I feel lucky
I’m so grateful to be able to do what I do, to do what I love. Be able to share my passion and love for adventure, challenges and all that life can present. I really enjoy teaching Pilates, the way we move, to feel “happy healthy and strong” and to challenge you. Our work then presents in the form of improved posture, enhanced flexibility and a stronger body. I receive the greatest satisfaction by guiding my students toward their goal and monitoring their progress.
Me and my point of view
Pilates and the technique of movement and moving correctly, really is my passion.
We are all built differently, and often we accept our body as it is, believing that change is not possible. I believe we can all improve.
However we often accept small nagging pain, and believe there to be no solution. I like to think of it like wearing the same perfume or scent of a long time. We get so used to it, we don't notice it. Others may notice it, but we take it for granted.
Pain can work the same way, we genuinely don’t notice it or really feel it, as to us it has become the norm, but our bodies have learned to compensate. As time passes this has a detrimental impact on our posture and our bodies adapt to try and help us. We get on with it. The result, muscles shorten, thus changing how our body is aligned and this puts pressure on our joints and build up of tension, creating new hazards and potentially greater pain.
Compounding these issues we continue to do repetitive movement (tennis, golf, walking, running, sitting etc) inside the wrong alignment, causing further problems and pain for our bodies.
By opening up and lengthening the body's muscle groups we can fix the problem and find relief - this is were I can help you.
I am Swedish, living in Ireland for the last twenty years, a mother of two boys and well accustomed to juggling the challenges of life. I know how hard it can be to get everything done. That’s why I feel it is so important to put aside some time for ourselves.
Ask yourself, have you ever regretted exercising or being active? Did you ever think "shame I went for that walk, now I feel tired, I should have just vegged on the sofa”. I suspect that is not the case and if you are on my website you are clearly someone who wants to take action. Exercise should always make us feel better, enhance our fitness, and build the resilience needed to meet our daily challenges.
It is easy to assume that other people are different to you and that you can’t possibly be like them, be as fit and active as they are. Honestly, we all have a story ... I'm not from a gymnastic or dancing background. I have trained to be what I have become. I think that is the reason why I like to help others so much. I know we can change our range of motion, our flexibility, our weight and even our mood.
All change is possible if you are willing to work for it.
(I only started to do headstands in the spring of 2018).
Yes I love being active, love all sport and the positive feeling I receive from them. But after I had my two boys (with only a year between each birth) I suffered with severe back pain. Many visits to the doctor later (at one stage the pain shooting down my leg, making me unable to walk) a subsequent MRI scan revealed that I had two empty discs in my lower back. This was the cause of my pain, the discs bulging caused them to press on my nerves. The back injury and the fact that I had gained weight during my pregnancies going from 55kg to 80kg (average gain is 12-18kg) and from being pregnant for nearly two consecutive years, there was serious action needed and I took it.
In the end, we really only are as young or old as our bodies feel. I for one can say that i FEEL younger now then I did ten years ago.
As a rule of thumb any type of movement is good. The Pilates method and principals can be applied to any sport or day-to-day living. It simply teaches us how to move well. So when people say to me "I just don't like sport" I feel like laughing! (filter Kristina, filter!). To me it is no different to someone saying, they do not like food, there are so many ways to be active and so many options available.
But is the question really about liking or disliking sport??
Is this harder then sitting on the sofa, relaxing and watching TV / tablets / phones...?
Harder as in difficult? Well it involves effort.
But the choice is there and its your choice.
I'm not judging anyone for not being active, we should all do in life exactly what we want to do. Its your life so live it with no regrets, be truthful to yourself, honestly that's how I feel.
Saying that the reasons or lack of, one is choosing not to be active or not achieving there wellness goals .... I have less time for.
